… Walsingham is known as “England’s Nazareth” and so it seemed good that his canonisation be celebrated here, but the prospect of organising a big celebration was a bit daunting, given our small number. It could only work if we got others involved. But a few months earlier we had organised a small celebration for L Sr Patricia’s 50th jubilee and we could sense what a great longing there was in the parish to get together after all the Covid restrictions. So we took the risk.
We began by inviting Bishop David Oakley, who had been a long-time member of the priests’ fraternity and had known us in Birmingham.
