The message of Walsingham is an invitation to share in Our Lady’s joy of the Annunciation, as part of the ancient tradition of England as Mary’s Dowry. The Basilica of Our Lady at Walsingham is the Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady in England, which has existed since the Middle Ages as one of the oldest international Marian Shrines in the world. In medieval times it was one of the great Shrines of Christendom alongside Rome, Jerusalem and Santiago de Compostela.
It is a story of three women, who all gave their `yes` to participate in the joy of the Annunciation. Our Lady, who took the lady of the manor
Richeldis de Faverches in spirit to Nazareth where she was asked to build a replica of the Holy House and Charlotte Boyd who was instrumental in restoring the Slipper Chapel to become the Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady.
