480th Anniversary of the Dissolution of Walsingham Priory

On Saturday 4 August 2018 Fr Michael Rear, author of one of the most comprehensive books on Walsingham, will be speaking about the
dissolution of the ancient Priory on its 480th anniversary. `Walsingham’s Darkest Hour: The King’s Pleasure that the Priory should be dissolved.`

The Talk will be in the Orangery at the Anglican Shrine at 2pm, followed by Vespers for the Feast of the Compassion of Our Lady from the 15th century
Walsingham Breviary in the Anglican Shrine Church at 3.30pm.

After Vespers there will be a procession to the Priory Grounds at 4pm which will then continue towards Elmham House, concluding with Benediction in the Elmham
House Gardens.

The Feast of the Compassion of Our Lady is a rare and beautiful Marian feast found only in the liturgies of medieval Walsingham. This will be the first time this
Liturgy will have been prayed since the Reformation.
