Syro-Malabar Pilgrimage 2016

From eight o`clock in the morning members of the Syro Malabar community of England began to arrive at the Shrine. This year their
pilgrimage was in a new format as they did not process down to the Shrine, but the whole pilgrimage took place within the Shrine domain and neighbouring fields.
With the numbers of pilgrims increasing this avoided traffic congestion in the village. In the morning there was a talk, the rosary, prayers and the rededication of
children. Several pilgrims were wearing national dress and there was the most beautiful range of colours and saris. After lunch there was a procession around six
acre field with a band of drummers: a wonderful sight with several decorated umbrellas and flags. Mass was then celebrated in the Syro Malabar Rite by the Most
Revd Kuriakose Bharanikulangara, Archbishop of Faridabad, who had travelled from India for the annual pilgrimage: a spectacular and uplifting day.
