Special moment at the Basilica of Our Lady of Walsingham

Today is a remarkable day at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.

Father James Moore from the Archdiocese of Liverpool, who as an 18-year-old (now 86) took part in the 1948 Cross Carrying Pilgrimage of Penance and
Prayer for Peace, visited the Basilica at Walsingham and presented to Mgr John Armitage, rector of the Shrine, a book about that up-lifting pilgrimage.

Cross Carrying Pilgrimage of Penance and Prayer for Peace was a great public demonstration of Christian hope of bringing about the gift of real peace to
the troubled world after the Second World War. 400 men from 14 different parts of England walked great distances to the Our Lady’s Shrine and carried large
wooden crosses which are now located at the Shrine’s grounds.

Whilst visiting Walsingham we encourage you to call in at our Slipper Chapel Shop and buy a booklet about this extraordinary pilgrimage. The
booklet costs only £1.
