The 2016 Pilgrimage Season started on the 1st of May with the first of the two pilgrimages of the Tamil community in England. During the day almost eight
thousand pilgrims visited the Shrine, presented their petitions in the Slipper Chapel and took part in the procession, Benediction and Mass. It was a wonderful
witness of faith as pilgrims queued waiting patiently and with good humour to spend a few moments with Our Lady in the Slipper Chapel. The open air Mass was
celebrated in the Shrine Grounds and then there was time for food and conversation before the pilgrims returned to their homes, some as far as Yorkshire.
