Mgr John Armitage explains how housebound person can receive the indulgence for the Year of Mercy.
For those unable to to visit and go through a Holy Door for reasons such as sickness or lack of transport, the importance is the intention to go through a
Holy Door. A spiritual pilgrimage can be made by watching the streamed midday pilgrim Mass at the National Shrine. As for the sick and the elderly, the Holy Father
says, `For them it will be of great help to live their sickness and suffering as an experience of closeness to the Lord who in the mystery of his Passion, death
and Resurrection indicates the royal road which gives meaning to pain and loneliness. Living with faith and joyful hope this moment of trial, receiving communion or
attending Holy Mass and community prayer, even through the various means of communication, will be for them the means of obtaining the Jubilee
Indulgence.`
We recommend the Prayer for the Housebound to Our Lady of Walsingham (see photo above). If you would like to receive a free prayer card, please
