On Sunday, 12th July, over 14, 000 members of the Tamil community of England, held their annual pilgrimage to Walsingham. This is the largest pilgrimage of the
year and a wonderful witness to the faith of this community. The day is very much a family occasion: often families with three generations travel many a mile for
the devotions and celebrations. The first coach arrived at 6.30 am from North Yorkshire and by midday the coach park and fields for car parking were full. Pilgrims
queued patiently, often for up to an hour and a half, to spend a few minutes of prayer in the Slipper Chapel. The Mass was celebrated by Fr Paul, former Northern
Provincial of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and then there was time for a meal as the sun came out and pilgrims relaxed before the journey home.
Staff at the shrine are all extremely grateful to the volunteers who help make this day possible and to the Norfolk police for their help in ensuring that traffic flow
was sustained and the whole day went off smoothly. This pilgrimage now attracts the second largest number of people to a single event in Norfolk during the year,
as they affirm their faith. (The largest is to the Royal Norfolk Show but that is held over two day!)
