Union of Catholic Mothers Celebrate Anniversary Pilgrimage

The Union of Catholic Mothers celebrated their seventieth pilgrimage to Walsingham this year. East Anglia UCM was the lead diocese and both Bishop Alan Hopes of
East Anglia and Bishop Alan Williams of Brentwood, formerly the shrine director, and the newly appointed spiritual director of the UCM, were present.
On Monday evening Bishop Williams presided during Adoration and Benediction followed by a torchlight procession along the Pilgrims` Way to the gardens of
Elmham House. On Tuesday, Bishop Williams celebrated Mass in the shrine grounds and then after lunch there was a silent procession along the Holy Mile to the
grounds of the priory. Bishop Lindsay Urwin, the administrator of the Anglican Shrine joined the procession. Bishop Lindsay is leaving Walsingham in the autumn,
returning to Australia, and the UCM were delighted he was able to join their festivities. Bishop Hopes gave Benediction in the grounds of the priory and pilgrims were
able to pray at the site of the original shrine. The Shrine Rector, Mgr John Armitage, gave an anniversary certificate to the national president and the intentions of
the UCM will be included in the next novena of Masses. There was a very happy atmosphere and Mgr John challenged the UCM members to bring two guests each
next year.
