This Sunday, 22nd July, sees the Tenth Annual Grandparents Pilgrimage, organised by the Catholic Grandparents Association, taking place at the Shrine. Led by Bishop Hine, Chair of the Marriage and Family Life Committee the day looks set to be one suitable for all ages.
12 noon Mass will begin with a colourful Entrance Procession of children carrying streamers and “lollipops” (made of wood, sorry children!) – to the hymn “Follow me, Follow me!” More traditional hymns will also be included, especially during the Offertory where prayers from Children and Grandparents, amongst others, will be brought up (why not bring one with you or write one and hand it to a member of the team who will be wearing sashes before Mass?) And then what better way to end this celebration of Grandparents, Parents, Godparents and their Children than with the hymn “Give me joy!”
After Mass a Presentation by Phil Butcher (Brentwood Diocese) called “Home is a Holy Place” will take place in the Chapel for adults, whilst the children have their own liturgy outside – including singing, dancing, crowning Our Lady’s statue with flowers and a mini-procession around the Shrine Grounds.
After the “faith” side, follows the “fun” – with bouncy castle, face painter etc. Bring along a picnic and bask in the sun we are promised will appear!
For Sat-Navs use the Postcode NR22 6AS and then follow the road in to the Shrine.
