Union of Catholic Mothers Celebrate Anniversary Pilgrimage

The Union of Catholic Mothers celebrated their seventieth pilgrimage to Walsingham this year. East Anglia UCM was the lead diocese and both Bishop Alan Hopes of East Anglia and Bishop Alan Williams of Brentwood, formerly the shrine director, and the newly appointed spiritual director of the UCM, were present. Society of St Vincent de Paul Pilgrimage

Almost 1,000 members of the SVP came on the annual pilgrimage. Our Lady of Boulogne comes to Walsingham

Members of the parish of Boulogne, France, led by their parish priest, Fr Frederic Dominy, processed to the Shrine and the statue of Our Lady of Boulogne was then placed in the sanctuary of the Chapel of Reconciliation. After Mass, Bishop Alan Hopes greeted them and led the short procession to the Slipper Chapel, where the statue remained for the rest of the day. Read more

The Daman Community of Peterborough

Over 200 members of the Daman Community of Peterborough were also at the midday Mass. Daman was a Portuguese colony in India from 1559-1961 and many Portuguese speaking Indians are now a vibrant force in the catholic community in England. Mgr John Armitage welcomed them as they started their procession to the Shrine.

The Marist Pilgrimage celebrated over 47 years of the Marist Fathers’ and Sisters’ care of the National Shrine. The national shrine of Walsingham has launched a £10 million appeal to pay for new buildings and to expand its role in the Church.

Annual National Caribbean Pilgrimage

The Annual National Caribbean Pilgrimage to Walsingham coincided with the celebration of the feast of St Peter and St Paul. After a procession, Mass was celebrated by Fr Daniel Ofere, a priest from Nigeria, who spoke of the wonderful character of the Universal Church. The pilgrimage was joined by a large number of the Punjabi Rosary Group, Coventry.

On Sunday 28th June, the Caribbean pilgrimage was as lively as ever, Mass was celebrated by Fr Albert Ofere from Nigeria and this year the pilgrimage was joined by over a hundred members of the Punjabi Rosary Group from Coventry. The Shrine Rector, Mgr John Armitage, was delighted to welcome all these pilgrims, who have already booked dates to return next year.

On Saturday 27th Mgr Keith Newton led the Ordinariate pilgrimage using their own liturgy.

During this Mass Sister Wendy Renate and Sister Jane Louise of the Sisters of Our Lady of Reconciliation took their final vows.
